Hot Triggers – the power to change human behaviours!

What is a hot trigger?

A hot trigger is a call to action that I can act on right away. An example would be a link in my email inbox that calls me to act, like an emails I get from Facebook that tells me that somebody has tagged one of my photos. So what is happening, first I just want check my emails and some minutes later I find myself spending time on a Facebook page looking photos, this behaviour wasn’t planed or let’s better say it was not planned by me, it was planned by some Facebook guys ;-) .

BJ Fogg has mentioned the design mantra:
Put “Hot triggers” in the path of all motivated people!

That’s what you need to do to win in the consumer space, triggering behaviours. Put your message in to the existing path of your target group, existing path would be email inbox, their Facebook news feed, their twitter stream into thing they already doing and you focus on the motivated people.

Facebook has very good systems to change human behaviours; maybe this is even what makes Facebook so successful. BJ Fogg, Director, Persuasive Technology Lab at Stanford University and author of the book, Mobile Persuasion, spoke at the SES San Francisco 2010 on the topic of social media and its ability to create hot triggers influencing human behavior. BJ Fogg believes that companies must put hot triggers in the path of motivated people in order to effectively compete in the consumer space. BJ studies the growth of Facebook and how the application uses triggers to influence the behavior of its users. BJ also discusses the impact of mobile on society and how it will become the dominant tool to influence human behavior. BJ concludes by discussing some of the publications his lab is producing for 2011.

The secrets of Facebook – Why is Facebook so successful?

Why is Facebook so successful?

Facebook Success Secrets

Facebook Success Secrets

There are lots of Social Media Platforms but not one is as successful as Facebook.

Why?

What makes Facebook more successful than other Social Media Platforms?

What is the real secret behind the Facebook Success?

I don’t believe that Facebook has a better usability or a better design than other Social Media Sites. Too Facebook does not have much better features then other Social Media Services like, MySpace, Friendfeed, Plaxo, Tumblr, etc.

So what makes the difference? What makes Facebook more Successful?

I think the secret behind the Facebook Success is the truth that Facebook does one thing better than all other Social Media Service, Facebook better motivates Users to act on Facebook, the Hot Triggers on Facebooks, that call the Facebook Users to action are amazing.

BJ Foggs Behavior Model shows that three elements must converge at the same moment for behaviour to occur: Motivation, Ability, and Trigger. When behaviour does not occur, at least one of those three elements is missing.

Using the Behaviour Model as a leader, web workers can detect what stops users from performing behaviours that they seek. For example, if users are not performing target behaviour, such as rating hotels on a travel web site, the Model helps to see what psychological element is lacking.

This Behaviour Model also helps people to understand behaviour change better. What was once a fuzzy mass of psychological theories now becomes organized and specific when viewed through the Behaviour Model.

The Facebook “LIKE” button

The Facebook Like Button

The Facebook Like Button

Pay attention to the new “Like” Button on Facebook.

On the f8 conference in San Francisco Facebook has shown off a major new Facebook feature, the “Facebook Like button” that can be embedded on websites and allow users to share content they like from the internet with their social networks.

Facebook has replaced the “become a fan” terminology with a “Like” button, what I think is a very impotent change. These become a fan thing always felt a bit strange, I am maybe be a Bruce Springsteen fan but I am not interest to get a fan of different brands or even just simple websites. To like a brand or a simple website more fits and it becomes more easy to just click this button if it’s named “Like” than it is labelled “become a fan”.

To introduce users to the ‘Like’ button, Facebook has posted an alert that appears on users’ Facebook pages and directs them to a FAQ section with information about the new feature.

Hi :) so I have created an Ortwin Oberhauser page on Facebook too, maybe there is some people out there who just like me, since people no longer have to get fans of me or my page, I begin to like these Facebook pages.
